The goal of the first session is for us to get to know each other while reviewing important information about your life and what brings you to therapy. I will ask you questions about your life, treatment history, medical conditions, childhood, important relationships, occupation, and your goals for therapy.

Q: How will we communicate between therapy sessions?
If you need to contact me between sessions, please send a message through your patient portal or leave me a voicemail. I will aim to respond within 48-72 hours, though this might not always be possible given the demands of the day/week. In case of a true emergency, please call 911 or your local emergency room.
Q: Can we have a therapy session while I am traveling out of state or internationally?
Licensing requirements state that you must be physically located in one of the states I am licensed in (CO, TN, MT) at the time of our session. If you are traveling, we will need to pause our sessions until you are back in one of these states.
Q: Do you use a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform for video sessions?
Yes, I use Simple Practice, which is a HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record. Before our first session, I will send you a link to create your patient portal. Through the portal, you will receive the initial paperwork and the telehealth link for our video sessions. You can also communicate with me via secure messaging in your patient portal.
Q: What payment methods do you accept for self-pay?
I accept all major credit cards, HSA cards, and checks. Payment is processed through a HIPAA-compliant third-party billing system. You will receive an invoice and receipt for all payments through your patient portal.
Q: Can I have a mix of in-person and telehealth sessions?
Yes, I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions. We can discuss options for a mix of these during our first session. However, please note that telehealth sessions are not possible if you are traveling out of state or internationally due to licensing requirements.
Q: How often will we meet for therapy?
The frequency of sessions will depend on your individual needs, treatment goals, and life circumstances. Weekly or bi-weekly sessions are generally preferable for adequate pacing and progress. We will discuss and agree on a schedule that works for you during our first session.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations or rescheduled sessions that are not received at least 24 hours in advance will be subject to a $75 fee. This policy is in place because the time is exclusively reserved for you. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that time.
